FACE occasionally holds training sessions for volunteers, a mix of information and experiential learning. Training generally takes place over a Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. There is a small fee for training to help cover the costs of the room rental, workshop packages, and refreshments.
Alternatively, it may take place over two weekends. Information on the FACE Program, on Restorative Justice and the various ways it can be applied is provided (for example, how restorative justice can be used for criminal offenses pre-charge or post-charge, for family issues, for schools, for organizations and businesses). Role playing various scenarios in a circle, and having the chance to role play being the facilitator / co-facilitator is an important part of the training.
In addition to the training session, facilitator trainees must adhere to the following before they are considered fully trained FACE facilitators:
- provide a criminal record check
- co-facilitate two circles with a seasoned facilitator.
